Education project in the Philippines

Education and shelter for children at Pier 3

For this project we are urgently looking for sponsors for the children’s lunch supply

Life in the slums of Pier 3

Children living in the slums of Pier 3 in the harbor of Cebu City face a number of hardships: existential worries of their parents, crime and drug abuse in their neighborhood. Access to education is out of reach for most children – only children with school uniforms and school supplies are admitted to school. Most parents are too poor to equip their children for school.

Since 2019, we provide children an access to education – together with our partner, the Bylling Foundation. We support 22 school children and since 2022 20 preschool children.

Our activities

Pedagogical support

The school children receive pedagogical support and help with their homework. They are also continually educated on healthy nutrition and environmental issues. During the school closures due to Covid, our social pedagogue made sure that the children kept up with their class. Since summer 2022, when schools opened again, our school children come to our house in the afternoons, where they are supported with their homework. Since summer 2022, we playfully prepare preschool children for school In the mornings. One focus is on developing social skills, which have suffered greatly as a result of the Covid years.

Lunch

Due to the difficult living conditions, the children are not fed sufficiently and healthily at home. The certainty of having a hot lunch is a great relief for the children. It is also an important incentive for parents to send their children regularly to our educational project. The children are provided with a hot and balanced lunch on school days. We finance this meal through our sponsorship program. We are still urgently looking for sponsors – you could also take over one or more sponsorships!

Clothing and school supplies

We regularly equip the school children with school uniforms and school supplies so that they can go to school. We also pay their school fees. We also dress our preschool children.

Shelter

At the beginning of our project in 2019, the children learned, played and ate lunch on the street. In 2021, we were able to build a house thanks to the generous support of immoviewer GmbH. This house is a protected and safe shelter for the children in the middle of the slum. Here they can learn, play and just be a kid. In the mornings, the preschool children spend their time at our house, in the afternoons the school children.

Hygiene program

To gradually improve the children’s health, we also teach them basic hygiene rules. We equip them with soap, toothbrush and toothpaste so that they can wash and brush their teeth together in the morning or afternoon. With this program, we want to reach more children in the neighborhood in the long term. We finance it through the sale of our Savon de Marseille soaps.

This educational project is made possible by our partner immoviewer.

We need school supply at the beginning of each new school year. I think it’s great that you can combine what you need with a good cause and help disadvantaged children. Not everyone has the chance to go to school.
